Third Sunday Evening Prayer
The Worship Committee of the Session of First Presbyterian Church invites the congregation and community to participate in Third Sunday Evening Prayer, a series of special worship services scheduled throughout the year at 7:00 pm in the Sudie George Chapel. Evening Prayer is a service of song, Scripture, and prayer and offers participants a time of reflection and worship at the close of the day and the beginning of a new week. Although song, Scripture, and prayer are found in Sunday morning worship, these worship elements may be expressed in a variety of ways in an evening prayer service, offering a another path to experience God through worship.

In an effort to help the congregation anticipate these services throughout the year, the third Sunday of the month was chosen as the day for evening prayer. The 2009-210 schedule of Third Sunday Evening Prayer will include the following worship theme:

(September 20) Service in the manner of the Taizé
(October 18) Service in the manner of the Iona Community
(November 15) Service in the manner of the Taizé Community
(January 17)  Service in an Emergent Style
(February 21) Service in Reverence for the Earth
(March 21)  Service in the manner of the Taizé Community
(May 16)  Jazz Vespers

Put these dates on your calendar now for 2009-2010 and resolve to invite a friend, co-worker, or family member to attend with you.  A service of evening prayer is accessible to all, young and all, longtime church member or someone new to worship.  These special services add another dimension to the worship life of our church – plan to be a part of the experience!
